Teaching Writing and Reading Across the Curriculum Supporting MCCRS
Research is clear; discipline-based instruction in reading and writing enhances student achievement in all subjects when teachers focus on helping students develop strategies for reading and writing within their content areas.
Teachers will engage in reading strategies for reading subject materials and opportunities to write thoughtfully about them to master concepts. Use of these writing strategies within course materials allows students to read with clear comprehension and write effectively about a given topic or subject matter. Teachers will learn how to teach a mini lesson using reading and writing, focused on a lesson point or topic to engage students in connecting why today’s instruction is important to them as readers or writers, and how the lesson relates to prior work. They will learn how to teach a concept through use of guided practice to actively engage students and link how this strategy can be used today and everyday to strengthen their writing and reading.
- Course fee includes CEU certificate cost.
- Participants will be provided approximately an hour to have lunch with their training colleagues on their own.
