Phonics First® (K-5th) Orton-Gillingham Refresh Course (Self-paced) (Group R-3)

Prerequisite: Completion of Phonics First® Level I or Phonics First® Primary
Self-Paced Online Class Length: 6-7 hours (30 days to complete from start date)

Appropriate Audience:
Kindergarten through 5th Grade teachers who have completed Phonics First® Level I or Phonics First® Primary

Course Description:
This self-paced, online class uses videos, on-screen animations, activities and quizzes to review the Brainspring Phonics First® Level I Orton-Gillingham methodology. Class content includes a thorough review of multisensory techniques, strategies, and concepts to support delivery with fidelity.

Review Includes:
     • Lesson plan components
     • Visual, auditory, tactile-kinesthetic techniques for phonetic and non-phonetic words
     • Syllabication strategies

Additional Benefits:
     • Interactive discussion board
     • Instructors available to answer questions

Upon Completion, Participants Will:
     • Gain a deeper understanding of each lesson component
     • Be better prepared to deliver Phonics First® lessons with fidelity

Miss. Const. Art. 4, Section 66 Eligible attendees for this training includes teachers, counselors, and administrators who are employed by a school district or MDE. Unless specifically noted otherwise, external contractors or vendors may not attend. This event is being funded with state and/or federal funds and is being provided for employees of school districts, employees of the Mississippi Department of Education and Department contractors. Miss. Const. Art. 4, Section 66 prohibits governing authorities from making donations. According to the Mississippi Attorney General, once the federal funds are turned over to the state, the rules for the expenditure of state funds apply.
