Mind in the Making

Mind in the Making

Increase parental engagement and support kindergarten readiness with strategies and techniques to build executive function skills in children. Mind in the Making training teaches educators and families about the brain science behind executive functions and how they can promote these skills in their children. In this workshop, participants will grow their own capacity in supporting executive function by focusing on the key skills that students need and promoting those skills so the whole child grows. Participants will also gain techniques for supporting parents in their work as brain builders for their own children.

Mind in the Making training is based on the work of Ellen Galinsky and her book. Her book surveys early childhood research on executive functions and the seven skills humans need developed to be successful. Those include: focus and self-control, perspective taking, communicating, making connections, critical thinking, taking on challenges, and self-directed, engaged learning. The program's objective is to educate attendees about the executive functions of the brain and why promoting development in those functions is so important to preparing children for academics and for life.
